Polymer-protein composite membranes for bioremediation

Heavy metal contamination is one of the world's major environmental problems, posing significant risks to ecosystems and their living organisms. Currently, biosorbent materials from natural origin have succeeded in heavy metal remediation. However, synthetic biosorbent materials can also be used for similar purposes, which is the focus of my thesis project. In this internal seminar I will present part of this work concerning the creation of polymer-protein composites. The grafting strategies implemented to create this material type are explored, focusing on an interesting approach that uses silica NPs as vector molecules
